Working Principle
Ductility is defined as distance in (cm) to which a standard briquette of bitumen can be stretched before the thread breaks. The briquette is stretched at a rate of 50 mm/min ± 2.5 mm/min at a temperature of 27° C ± 0.5° C
Salient Features
- This instruments is specially designed for the tropical regions where radiation of sunrays are higher than the average.
- The Machine is having built in refrigeration system to conduct ductility test below ambient temperature up to 10 °C in tropical conditions.
- Entire instrument is mounted on a sturdy, rigid stand to conduct the test with ease.
- Equipped with direct drive motor to maintain constant speed
- Vibration free and smooth operation
- Provides two rates of pull / travel : 1 cm/minute or 5 cm/minute
- Brass/Bronze Gears to prevent rusting
Construction Details
- The Machine can be operated at 27°C with control accuracy of ± 0.5° C as per the requirement of ASTM & IS.
- The apparatus consists of water bath with a heater, and a circulating pump to maintain uniform temperature distribution throughout the chamber.
- Water bath inside chamber is made of mirror polished stainless steel material S.S. 304 Grade
- Inner chamber is also equipped with thick insulation to prevent the thermal heat loss.
- The water bath chamber is provided with water drain cock to empty the tank water after completion of the test.
- Exterior body is fabricated from Mild Steel material, which is powder coated in attractive shades.
- A heater is fitted inside the water bath to achieve the desired temperature set point as per the test requirements.
- The Temperature inside the water bath is controlled by Dual Display Microprocessor based Auto Tuning PID Digital Temperature indicator cum controller.
- Control switches for motor, stirrer, heater and indicator lamps are fixed in control panel mounted at convenient place on the exterior side of water bath chamber.
- EIE Ductility machine will be supplied with 3 numbers of briquette molds as per the ASTM & IS Specifications.
How it works
- One half of the briquette moulds is fixed in a fixed plate in the water bath, while the other half of the briquette mould is fixed to a carrier, which slides over a rotating threaded shaft with a clutch.
- The motor and gears to rotate the carrier shaft are housed in a cabinet fixed above the other end of the bath.
- A clutch arrangement is made to stop the movement of the movable bracket when rapture of the specimen is noticed.
- An electric motor driven reduction gear unit ensures smooth constant speed and continuous operation and provides two rates of pull / travel - 5 cm/min and 1 cm/min, Which is selected by a clutch.
- Gears are bronze or brass
- A pointer fixed to the carrier moves over a scale graduated from 0 150 cm x 1 mm, fixed on the bath with "0" (Zero) of the scale towards the fixed plates side.
- A traveling pointer adjusts to zero starting position indicates exact position of carriage on a linear centimeter scale attached to trough's front edge.
- Complete with three briquette moulds and one base plate as per ASTM D 6084, 5892 & 113.
- Operates on 230v, 50 60 hz, single phase, AC Supply
Refrigeration system
- Refrigeration system comprises of Compressor, cooling coil, and condenser assembly.
- Compressor will be of Kirloskar/Emerson make.
- Complete refrigeration system will be provided with the digital control panel, which will be fitted below the ductility water bath on sturdy frame.
- The digital control panel will be comprising of cooling switch, mains switch and Auto tune PID Digital temperature controller cum indicator.
