This setup is designed to assess the horizontal burning characteristics of rigid cellular thermal insulation materials by exposing samples to a low-energy heat source. This test provides a relative measure of flammability and is influenced by the material's density, cellular structure, and thickness.
Key Components of the Setup:
- Test Chamber
- Dimensions: 600 mm (length) x 300 mm (width) x 760 mm (height).
- Material: Constructed from galvanized iron sheets with asbestos insulating boards lining the interior.
- Placement: Positioned within a fume cupboard to ensure a draft-free environment and natural air circulation around the specimen.
- Fuel Supply
- Gas Type: LPG gas with pressure-regulating and on/off valves for controlled ignition of the specimen.
- Burner with Wing Top
- Specifications: A standard gas burner with an internal diameter of 9.5 mm.
- Wing Top: Fitted with an attachment measuring 48 mm (internal length) x 3 mm (internal width) to ensure consistent flame application.
- Specimen Support Gauze
- Dimensions: 215 mm (length) x 75 mm (width) with a 13 mm right-angle bend for secure specimen positioning.
- Material: Made from 6.4 mm mesh gauze, crafted from 0.8 mm diameter steel wire.
- Gauze Holder
- Material: Mild steel, arranged horizontally and aligned parallel to the 600 mm length of the test chamber for optimal positioning.
- Timing Device
- Accuracy: Measures time with precision up to ±1 second to record burning duration.
- Measuring Scale
- Graduations: Marked in millimeters for precise measurements during testing.
This setup is ideal for industries requiring detailed analysis of flammability in thermal insulation materials, ensuring compliance with safety standards in construction, automotive, aerospace, and more.
The Equipment as per ASTM D635 /ISO 9772 / UL 94 can also be supplied.
