Summary of test method
A sample of wax is melted and a droplet is made to adhere to the bulb of a thermometer. Using a prewarmed flask as an air jacket, the droplet on the bulb is allowed to cool at a fixed rate until it congeals. The congealing point is observed as the temperature at which the droplet ceases to flow as the thermometer is turned.
Details of apparatus
Consists of following parts and accessories
1) Erlenmeyer flask : 125-mL, glass, to serve as a thermometer jacket.
2) Rubber cork : For attaching the thermometer to the Erlenmeyer flask.
3) Motorized resolution arrangement : A flask holding stand Horizontally mounted on motor shaft with revolution counter
Note :
Hot air oven, Laboratory Rubber Gloves, Tongs and Porcelain Evaporating Dish are required to carry out the complete experiment as per ASTM Guided Procedure. Ho air oven and Porcelain Evaporating dish shall be procured at extra cost. Refer to the optional accessories.
